Mobile EV Charging: EV sales crossed the 2 million mark in 2024

India’s electric vehicle(EV) Industry is among the fastest – growing industries in the world. We are witnessing its transformation firsthand in becoming an integral component of the nation’s strategy to reduce its carbon emissions and combat climate change. It’s exciting to see history being made as EV sales crossed the 2 million mark last year.

Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025

We anticipate a 66.52% CAGR growth in the Indian EV segment, expecting it to reach US$ 113.99 billion by 2029, up from US$ 3.21 billion in 2022. This surge is driven by the increasing demand for sustainable and more environment- friendly modes of transport. Our Indian government has set an ambitious goal of achieving 30% EV penetration by 2030, however to reach this milestone, we must address key concerns such as range anxiety and less availability of robust mobile EV charging solutions. The Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 showcased the growing momentum in this sector, with over 8.5 lakh visitors exploring innovative solutions from the auto and allied industries. At the Auto Expo, around 90 vehicles were unveiled, with most being electric, along with several models featuring flex-fuel and other alternative powertrains, spearheading solid steps towards a sustainable future.

Mobec’s Solution

One solution that stands out in addressing issues like range anxiety and less-availability of robust charging stations, is mobile EV charging which is a game-changer—especially in emergencies. Imagine being stranded on a road without a charging station nearby. With mobile EV chargers, we can provide on-the-go power anytime, anywhere, reducing stress and delays for EV owners. At Mobec, we are already offering B2B mobile charging solutions, enabling more fence-sitters to confidently switch to EVs fearlessly, we are leading the way by deploying India’s first fleet of portable EV charging batteries designed to bring power on demand.

The various government schemes have further become a stepping stone bolstering EV infrastructure benefitting both the manufacturer and the consumer. The recent budget for FY’26 underlines the commitment that the Indian government has for the sector. Policies supporting manufacturers and consumers, coupled with subsidies and public-private partnerships, are accelerating the development of the charging ecosystem. State governments are stepping up with tax waivers, free registration, and rewards for manufacturers, leading to capital outlays and rapid expansion in the coming years.

Addressing the Issues and Current Scenario

Despite this progress, challenges remain as revealed in a report by the Forvis Mazars that 58% of potential buyers hesitate to switch to EVs due to concerns about battery life and charging point availability. Range anxiety is still a major barrier, especially in rural and remote areas where charging stations are scarce.

To address these concerns, we are focusing on renewable-powered mobile charging stations, utilizing solar and wind energy to further reduce the carbon footprint of electric mobility. In September 2024, EV’s consumed 68 million units of electricity, with TATA power-DDL being responsible for 22.06% of total consumption. Expanding mobile EV charging infrastructure in metro cities like Delhi is essential for increasing reliance on renewable resources that have already seen significant growth.

Beyond mobile-charging services, automakers are also tackling range anxiety. For example, Maruti Suzuki plans to set up fast-charging points every 5 to 10 Kilometers across India’s top 100 cities. The company is also exploring and researching battery rental services that will help to address the issue of charging time and power availability on the road through Nexa’s Service on Wheels. This initiative will go a long way toward making EVs more convenient and accessible for Indian consumers.

To sum it up, innovative solutions and strong market-ready strategies are driving EV adoption in India. As we continue to invest in new technologies and sustainable infrastructure, we are unlocking the true potential of green mobility. The journey toward a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable future for India’s transportation sector is well underway- and we are proud to be a part of it.
