Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) is a protocol for communication that helps Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSEs) and Central Management Systems (CMSs). The Open Charge Alliance (OCA), a worldwide group of businesses working to encourage the use of electric vehicles and the growth of the infrastructure for charging them, created the open standard known as OCPP.

How does OCPP Work?
Using the open-source language of Open Charge Point Control, charging stations and network management systems can communicate despite their differences (OCPP). The OCPP communication protocol was developed and made available by the Netherlands-based Open Charge Alliance (OCA) to push open standards for EV charging networks globally.
Every EV charging station must be compatible with every charger management program, which is the responsibility of the OCPP. Charge points rely on OCPP compliance to enable charging sessions, manage remote diagnostics, and ensure a secure data transfer.
There are various improvements over OCPP 1.6 in the most recent version, 2.0.1. While it has been modified to comply with current industry requirements, OCPP 1.6 is still an application protocol as OCPP 2.0.1 is being embraced.
Using Open Charge Point Protocol for driver apps
Companies may create sophisticated user apps for their charge point locations thanks to OCPP. User apps process payments, authorize EV drivers, and share data with EV drivers.
